Being influenced by two different cultures certainly had its advantages when it comes to British-Iranian jewelry designer, Leyla Abdollahi. We were honoured to have been included amongst some of the worlds most exciting flower designers and included in Olivier Dupon’s book – Floral Contemporary: The Renaissance in Flower Design. We spoke to Olivier to find out how he approached researching and writing the book. What was your relationship with flowers before you started on this book?
The 2015 Goldsmith Fair spanned over 10’000 visitors in two weeks from September 22nd to October 4th. The event took place inside the magnificent Goldsmith Hall located in the Barbican neighbourhood where the fair has benefited a modern revamp where 168 jewelers and silversmiths presented their pieces.
Designed by Gerald Genta, the Ritz London jewellery Showroom is located under the arches of the legendary Ritz Hotel on Picadilly. Offering an ecclectic selection of jewelry pieces set with extraordinary stones and colored stones, the store celebrates its 15th anniversary this year and many more to come.
IMAGINARIUM- an extremely well chosen title for the 2016 trend directions by Swarovski Gemstones division, took place this week at their London offices. Dr Birgit Rieder -director of Gem creative & Retail Marketing Gemstones Business, held an instructive presentation about what we can expect from the jewelry world in the years to come.
They represent a wide variety of approaches, from Sophia Webster’s dazzling designs featuring fluoro hues, metallics and whimsical details; through Joanne Stoker’s sculptural pieces with masterfully constructed heels; to Zoe Lee’s restrained, timeless designs in muted palettes. Each designer is introduced with a biography that highlights working practices and key sources of inspiration.
Olivier Dupon author of several books all published by Thames & Hudson, including The New Jewelers (2012) will have his new book on luxury jewelry published in 2016, in the meantime, he attended Masterpiece in London and visited Van Cleef and Arpels who were a major actor of the fair. A regular exhibitor at Tefaf (Maastricht) and at the Biennale des Antiquaires (Paris), not only VC&A was a prestigious catch for the London fair but an impeccable match.
Entering the Hemmerle’s world during Masterpiece London fair was like stepping into an architecturally modern museum featuring beautiful and rare artifacts. For the 2015 Masterpiece London, iconic Verdura pieces such as the Theodora cuffs with their Maltese cross emblazoned with gems on black enamel over gold or the Emerald Scarf necklace were part of the extraodinary gems that could not be missed. LONDON- Sicilian Duke Fulco di Verdura was certainly an Anglophile for most of his life, regularly exhibiting at Grosvenor House Art & Antiques fair, and ultimately retiring in London.
The unveiling of previously unseen art works, antiques and jewelry pieces exclusively at Masterpiece is why connoisseurs from around the world eagerly attend each year. Among all the exciting jewel unveilings this year, Olivier Dupon - reporting fort The Eye of Jewelry selected one of his favorites which was Carnet by Michelle Ong at Symbolic & Chase.
The talented jewelry designer was born in Zurich, raised in Paris, worked in New York and now is established in Geneva. She showcased an astounding jewel selection at Masterpiece London playing on shapes and colors. It was impossible to miss the Suzanne Syz stand at Masterpiece, an elegant and modern bonbonnière filled with exquisite one-off a kind treats.
