Whoever said orange was the new black (a motto made famous by the TV series of the same name), should think again. Black jewellery has never left the scene and it is even having a strong resur- gence among collections (black diamonds or spi- nels, onyx, jet, black lacquer, etc). It is after all the most stylish hue on its own or when combined with white and other colours. All the same, orange has cemented its place more than ever in the jew- ellery world as designers explore the world of co- loured gemstones and recognise orange’s atter- ing warmth and incandescent power, in the form of re opals, orange sapphires, spessartites, man- darin garnets, etc. To be continued...

Celebrating pearls for the June issue is fitting as the pearl is this month’s birthstone. Yet beyond any calendar considerations, pearls should re- ally be the bedrock of any jewellery collection.
